Maryport and the Solway coast

Maryport is an unspoilt 18th Century planned town lying on the mouth of the river Ellen, with stunning views over the Solway Firth to Scotland, and south-eastwards to the fells of the Lake District. As well as the Roman Museum there is a popular Aquarium (see link below), wonderful walks along the Sea Brows, a scenic golf course, a bustling marina and numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants. The town provides an ideal day out for families looking for an alternative to the attractions of the Lake District.
