Maryport Roman Festival
Saturday 17th July – Monday 30th August 2010

Events and activities for all the family, bringing history to life. Explore the Roman fort and milefortlets with volunteer Hadrian’s Wall guides. Gaius, the Roman potter, will show how to make your very own goddess and there will be tasting sessions of Roman food. The Comitatus Roman cavalry will be making a welcome return visit and there will be opportunities for children to train with Victor the Centurion and make friends with a Roman cavalry pony.

Usual museum admission applies with the exception of the Roman films, which are free. Read on for details of events and calendar of dates.

ARCHAEOLOGY IN ACTION 26 July - 8 August
See ground penetrating radar on site and get daily progress reports from the geophysics research team.

EXPLORE THE ROMAN FORT
Guided tours of the museum and fort (weather permitting) with volunteer Hadrian’s Wall guides.

CHILDREN’S CRAFTS
Make your own Roman sword, shield, armour, watchtower, game or jewellery.

AMBLING THROUGH THE GALLERY
Look in detail at the museum’s internationally significant collection with one of the museum’s volunteers.

MONDAY FINDS DAYS & HANDLING SESSIONS
Join one of the museum’s volunteers for a chance to get up-close and personal with Roman objects made and used 2,000 years ago.
