Frontiers of the Roman Empire: Maryport and Ruffenhofen
The Roman fort at Maryport lay at the extreme western edge of a vast and complex network of defences along the northern frontier of the Empire. In Germany and northern England these are now listed together as a transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site. To help visitors more fully appreciate the scope of the Roman frontier, the Senhouse Roman Museum is sharing iformation with the Ruffenhofen Museum in Bavaria which is located on a fort of similar age.
